Week of December 11-15, 2023

Monday:   Students will analyze their “Student Reporting Categories/ Progress Chart” in reference to Unit 5: Early Republic (Part 2) from last week. Begin examining Unit 6:  Age of Jackson.  (PowerPoint and questions)

Tuesday:  Students will explain the impact of political parties in the early republic and the election of Andrew Jackson, including expanded suffrage, analyze the reasons for the removal and resettlement of Cherokee Indians, as well as explain constitutional issues arising over the issue of states’ rights, including the Nullification Crisis.

Wednesday:   STAAR Benchmark:  Reading

Thursday:   STAAR Benchmark:  Math

Friday:  Finish with Tuesday’s objective and follow up with a review of the Study Sheet for the 1st part of their Semester Exam, beginning Monday.

Week of December 4-8, 2023

Monday:   Unit 5: (Part 2)  Early Republic Test

Tuesday:   Students will analyze their “Student Reporting Categories/ Progress Chart” in reference to Unit 5: (Part 1) from last week and Part 2 Early Republic test from Monday.

Wednesday:   Explain the impact of political parties in the early republic and the election of Andrew Jackson, including expanded suffrage.

Thursday:   Students will analyze the reasons for the removal and resettlement of Cherokee Indians during the Jacksonian era.

Friday:   Analyze the powers of the national government and state governments in a federal system.

Week of November 27-December 1, 2023

Monday:   Students will examine arguments (Supreme Court decisions)  regarding protective tariffs, taxation, banking system, as well as judicial review.

Assign vocabulary terms. (Assigned Monday, due Wednesday and quiz on Wednesday as well)

Tuesday:   Students will analyze the causes/issues, events, effects, and significance of the War of 1812

Wednesday:   Examine foreign policies of the first 5 presidents and their impact on the early republic.

Week of November 6-10, 2023

Monday:   Students will describe major domestic problems faced by the leaders of the new republic.  Unit 5:1 Early Republic: Addressing Challenges Vocabulary Terms are assigned today, due Wednesday, and students will have a quiz over the terms Wednesday. (Taxation,  Impressment , Political Party , Foreign Policy , Isolationism , Neutrality, Embargo, Domestic Policy, Protective Tariffs, Republic)

Tuesday:   Students will summarize arguments regarding protective tariffs, taxation, and the banking system.  Research Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton (Background and role in the new government)

Wednesday:   Examine election results from Tuesday.  (Civic Responsibility);  Describe major domestic problems  such as national security, creating a stable economic system, and setting up the court system includingbut not limited to:

  • Whiskey Rebellion
  • National Security (Establishment of the U.S Army (1784), U.S Navy (1794), U.S. Marines (1798)
  • Immigration Issues

Week of October 30-November 3, 2023

Monday:   Students will analyze/debate the arguments of the Federalists and Anti-Federalists, including those of Alexander Hamilton, Patrick Henry, James Madison, and George Mason.

Tuesday:   Students will summarize rights guaranteed in the Bill of Rights and the purposes for amending the U.S. Constitution.

Wednesday:   Students will identify examples of responsible citizenship, including obeying rules and laws, staying informed on public issues, voting, and serving on juries. (Focusing on Texas and local elections. (November 7)

Thursday:   Review Unit 4:   Writing the Constitution for their test on Wednesday.

Friday:   Students will be tested over Unit 4:  Writing the Constitution

Week of October 23-27, 2023

Monday:   RED RIBBON WEEK GUEST SPEAKER. (National Family Partnership, formerly the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth, was established as a grassroots, nonprofit organization in 1980 by a handful of concerned and determined parents who were convinced they should begin to play a leadership role in drug prevention.  Since its founding thirty years ago, NFP has devoted its efforts to the well-being of youth. Today, NFP is a national leader in drug prevention education & advocacy. Our mission is to lead and support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth.)

Students will recite the Preamble to the Constitution.  Each day, we add one goal and practice memorizing the Preamble up to that point.  The students will recite the Preamble (individually) next Monday or Tuesday.

Tuesday:   Students will analyze the 7 Principles of the Constitution:     7 Principles of the Constitution Quiz

 

Wednesday:   Students will analyze/debate the arguments of the Federalists and Anti-Federalists, including those of Alexander Hamilton, Patrick Henry, James Madison, and George Mason.

Thursday:   Students will explain the issues of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, including the Great Compromise and the Three-Fifths Compromise.

Monday:   School Holiday (Teacher workday)

Tuesday:   Students will summarize the strengths and weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. (Vocabulary quiz:  terms assigned last Thursday: Compromise, Confederation, Constitution, Ratification, Popular Sovereignty, Federalism, Federalist, Anti-Federalist, Federalism, Amendment)

Wednesday:   Students will identify colonial grievances listed in the Declaration of Independence and explain how those grievances were addressed in the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Thursday:   Students will analyze the arguments of the Federalists and Anti-Federalists.

Friday:   Students will analyze the 7 Principles of the Constitution

 

Week of October 9-13, 2023

1st 9 Weeks Test is Wednesday covering Units 1,2,3.

Monday:   Students will review information covered this 9 weeks:  Unit 1:  Thinking like a Historian and Unit 2:  Colonial America.

Tuesday:   Students will review information covered this 9 weeks:  Unit 3:  American Independence

Wednesday:   1st 9 Weeks Exam

Thursday:   Students will complete their Reporting Categories chart.  (Examine and discuss 1st 9 Weeks Test.  Students will take ownership in their learning by examining the questions and analyzing students’ strenghts and areas of concern on  each test. The following categories are tested on each unit exam as well as on the STAAR test in April. 

Reporting Category 1 (Demonstrate an understanding of issues and events in U.S. History)

Reporting Category  2 (Demonstrate an understanding of geographic and cultural influences on historical issues and events)

Reporting Category 3   (Demonstrate an understanding of the role of government and the civic process on historical issues and events)

Reporting Category 4 (Demonstrate an understanding of economic and technological influences on  historical issues and events)

Friday:  Introduce Unit 4:  Address the creation and the adoption of the United States Constitution including a study of ideas and compromise.

Week of October 2-6, 2023

**End of the 1st 9 Weeks is next Friday. (October 13).  Next week, we will review the first 3 units and take the 9 Weeks Exam on Wednesday, October 11)

Wednesday:   Support a point of view on a social studies issue or event. (Desert Survival Situation).  Group deciding on which items to salvage.  

(Inference:  Similar to situation  after the American Revolution..what is next for the newly founded United States of America)

Thursday:   Students will summarize the strengths and weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.
